By Helen Gibson

Even as a candidate, Donald Trump proved he would be different from other presidents. This was especially evident in the way he interacted with the news media.

In this episode, host Helen Gibson talks to several people who observed now-President Trump from the campaign trail, including Jeremy Fugleberg, a journalist who covered the presidential election for the Cincinnati Enquirer; Amanda Crawford, a journalism professor with 20 years of political reporting experience; and Emily Pride, a 2017 Fleischaker/Greene Scholar who attended a Trump rally the weekend before the 2016 presidential election with Crawford and last year’s Fleischaker/Greene cohort.

In talking about their experiences, these sources explain what Donald Trump was like as a candidate, and what that meant for the journalists who tried to cover him.
